Sometimes a few hours on the Salish Sea simply isn’t enough.
For the wildlife lovers who could happily spend all day searching the horizon, the photographers waiting for that next opportunity, and the whale enthusiasts who are always curious about what might be around the next corner, we’re offering something a little different this September.
On Sunday, September 20, 2026, Seabreeze Adventures is heading out from Steveston for a special 6–7 hour Extended Zodiac Adventure.
With a small group, an open Zodiac, an experienced captain and a knowledgeable naturalist, this extended whale watching tour gives us more time to explore, search for wildlife and experience the incredible scenery of the Salish Sea.
What Is an Extended Whale Watching Tour?
Our regular whale watching tours take guests into the Salish Sea in search of whales and other marine wildlife. But for this special September trip, we're giving ourselves something we don't normally have quite as much of: time.
The Extended Zodiac Adventure lasts approximately 6–7 hours, allowing us to spend longer exploring the Salish Sea at a relaxed pace.
That doesn't mean spending six hours sitting beside a whale. Wildlife viewing regulations remain just as important on an extended trip, and all encounters are approached responsibly and with minimal disturbance to the animals.
Instead, the extra time gives us more opportunity to explore and search.
Where will we go? That depends on the day.
Wildlife moves, conditions change, and no two trips on the Salish Sea follow exactly the same path. That's part of what makes whale watching here so exciting.
More Time to Search for Wildlife
There is no itinerary that tells wild animals where they need to be at 2 PM on a Sunday.
Every whale watching trip involves searching.
Our captains and naturalists use their knowledge of the area and information available on the day to explore the Salish Sea in search of whales and other marine wildlife.
On an extended trip, we have more time available for that search and more time to experience everything else we encounter along the way.
Whale sightings and wildlife behaviour can never be guaranteed, but that's precisely what makes exploring a wild ecosystem different from visiting an attraction where everything is scheduled.
You never quite know what the Salish Sea has in store.
Designed for People Who Really Love Wildlife
You don't need to know the difference between a humpback whale and a Bigg's killer whale before you arrive.
You just need to be excited about wildlife.
This trip is particularly suited to people who find themselves wanting to know more: the guests asking our naturalists questions throughout the trip, watching the horizon between encounters, wondering which species they've just spotted and trying to understand what they're seeing.
With a small group, dedicated captain and knowledgeable guide, there's plenty of opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the wildlife and ecosystem around you.
If you're the person who normally gets back to the dock wishing the trip could have lasted a little longer, this adventure was made with you in mind.
A Whale Watching Adventure for Photographers
The Extended Zodiac Adventure is also designed with wildlife photographers in mind.
You'll travel aboard an open-air Zodiac-style vessel, providing unobstructed views of the surrounding water, wildlife, and coastal landscapes.
Your naturalist also has a background in photography, making this an especially appealing trip for anyone who enjoys experiencing the natural world through a camera.
But this isn't only about photographing whales.
The Salish Sea itself can be part of the photograph.
Water, mountains, islands, wildlife, and constantly changing September light can create completely different photographic opportunities throughout a single day.
Whether you're bringing dedicated camera equipment or simply want more time to photograph what you encounter, the extended format gives you a full day immersed in the landscape rather than rushing from one moment to the next.
We'll Stop Along the Way
Partway through the adventure we'll head ashore. You'll have an opportunity to stretch your legs, explore the area and purchase food or refreshments if you wish before we continue our adventure.
A granola bar is included with the tour, but other food is not, so come prepared for a full day on the water.
Why September?
September is a beautiful time to explore the Salish Sea.
It's a transition between summer and fall, and an extended trip gives us an opportunity to spend a substantial part of the day immersed in the ecosystem rather than simply passing through it.
Of course, this is still wildlife watching.
We cannot predict which species we'll encounter, where we'll travel or what behaviours we might see. The photographs you see from previous Seabreeze Adventures trips show what can happen in these waters, rather than what we can promise on any particular departure.
For us, that's one of the best things about it.
Every trip is shaped by the wildlife, water, light and conditions we find that day.
What to Expect on the Extended Zodiac Adventure
Your adventure begins at our office in Steveston, BC, where you'll check in 45 minutes before departure.
You'll meet your captain, naturalist, and fellow passengers and get your flotation suit before boarding the Zodiac.
Then we're off.
We'll spend approximately 6–7 hours exploring the Salish Sea, with the exact length of the trip depending in part on travel time to reach the wildlife. A shore stop will give everyone an opportunity for a break before we continue exploring.

Food beyond the included snack, cameras, and optional gratuities for your captain and guide are not included.
