Captain’s Log: April 18, 2025 A Porpoise Hunt

The weather was as flawless as the wildlife sightings.

Under a clear spring sky with Mount Baker standing tall on the horizon, we set out into calm waters that felt more like summer than April. Within hours, we came upon the T36As, a well-known family of Bigg’s killer whales that frequent the Salish Sea.

What began as playful tail slaps and socializing quickly shifted as we watched the orcas shift into hunting mode. With precision and power, the pod worked together to successfully take down a harbour porpoise—a rare opportunity for our guests to witness the natural behaviours of these apex predators.

The excitement didn’t end there. We also passed rafts of sea lions basking in the sun, harbour seals watching us curiously from the rocks, and bald eagles circling high above the coastline.

It was the kind of day that reminds us why every tour is different—and why each one is so special. With conditions like these and the season still just ramping up, we can’t wait to see what’s next.
