Captain's Log: May 10, 2025 A Wavy Day On The Water!

Wavy conditions and bright skies set the stage for an adventure that delivered everything we love about the Salish Sea: unpredictability, variety, and remarkable wildlife encounters.

Our first sighting of the day was a grey whale surfacing just beyond the whitecaps. Known for their long migrations and bottom-feeding behaviour—scooping up sediment from the ocean floor to filter out small crustaceans—grey whales are always a special find in our local waters.

Not long after, we were treated to the sight of a pod of transient Bigg’s killer whales—the T100s and T101s—moving through the waves. It’s always a privilege to observe these top predators in their natural habitat, cruising confidently through the rolling swell.

The wildlife sightings continued as we explored the coast. We passed groups of harbour seals and cormorants, California and Steller sea lions hauled out on the rocks, and even a pair of nesting bald eagles!

Days like this remind us of how rich and diverse the Salish Sea ecosystem truly is. With daily departures, the next adventure is always just around the corner.
