Hello, sunshine—and hello whales! ☀️🐋
After weeks of classic West Coast rain, April showed up with blue skies and calm seas—just in time for a truly unforgettable start to whale watching season.
In the first three days alone, we had some epic encounters:
- Two pods of Bigg’s killer whales
- Two grey whales
- And a supporting cast of seals, sea lions, and bald eagles doing their thing along the coast
One of the orca pods we spent time with was the T099s. With perfect sea conditions and clear skies overhead, we made the most of it.
The next day, we were lucky to spot grey whales at the mouth of the Fraser River. The whales were ID’d as CR2383 and CRC2558. CRC2558 is a relatively new visitor—first recorded in B.C. waters just last year—and we're crossing our fingers for many return visits throughout the season!
April has only just begun, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the month brings. Stay tuned for more updates from the Salish Sea!
