Whale Watching Lingo

Welcome to our series on whale watching terminology 1! If you've ever been on a whale-watching adventure, you might have heard terms like "blow" and "breach" thrown around. Do you know what these terms mean? Here’s an interesting guide that will help you understand whale talk. Let's dive into the first two fascinating terms!

1. Blow/Spout

This term refers to the moment when the whale comes to the sea surface to exhale all the water vapor and air off their body from its blowhole.

2. Breach

When a whale leaps out of the water and rotates mid-air, it is called breaching. This acrobatic display can serve various purposes, such as communication, dislodging parasites, or simply playing. It's like the marine version of a gymnast’s flip!
