Now Booking Winter on the Water: A New Way to Experience the Salish Sea

Discover the Magic of the Winter Coast

The Salish Sea doesn’t slow down in winter — it simply transforms. While the bustle of summer fades, the coastline comes alive in a more intimate way. The water takes on deep, glassy blues, the air feels crisp and fresh, and the wildlife continues its rhythm.

As humpback whales begin their long migration south to warmer breeding grounds, many other marine and coastal species remain active right here at home.

🦭 Steller and California sea lions haul out on rocky shores and buoys, jostling for the best spot to rest. Their deep barks and growls echo across the water — a soundtrack of winter life on the coast.

🦅 Bald eagles patrol the shoreline, perched high in cedar trees or circling overhead before swooping down to snatch a fish from the surface.

🐦 Seabirds such as surf scoters, cormorants, and mergansers gather in feeding flocks, diving and resurfacing in unison as they chase small schooling fish through the nutrient-rich waters.

Each tour offers a new blend of wildlife, weather, and light — from misty mornings that feel almost otherworldly to clear days when Mount Baker and the Gulf Islands shine on the horizon. Winter reveals a side of the Salish Sea that few ever see, reminding us that these waters are alive and thriving all year long.
