Why late-season tours are special
The Salish Sea is always full of life, but there’s something unforgettable about being on the water in late October and early November. The seas are quieter, the light is softer, and the wildlife is as active as ever. Guests often tell us that these tours feel more intimate and peaceful — the perfect way to end the season.
This year, our late-season tours have featured:
- Humpback whales continuing their migration south, pausing in local waters to feed before heading toward warmer breeding grounds.
- Bigg’s killer whales traveling in close family groups, their tall dorsal fins cutting through calm seas.
- Sea lions crowding buoys and rocky haul-outs, barking and jostling for space.
- Bald eagles soaring along the coastline, scanning the water for fish.
- And the unforgettable surprise of Northern Resident orcas visiting the Salish Sea this September — a rare encounter our guests will never forget.
A season to remember
From spring through fall, we’ve been lucky enough to witness countless moments that highlight the beauty and resilience of the Salish Sea ecosystem. No two trips have been alike, and that’s what makes eco-tours so special. Each day on the water brings something new: a whale’s tail fluke breaking the surface, a raft of sea lions warming in the sun, or the quiet awe of guests seeing orcas for the very first time.
